The case study or stair renovation example that we will use was kindly provided to us by Sandhill Building Solutions Ltd where they were renovating 1930's house in Eltham - South East London.
For the 1930's house there was very little done to the stairs since the house was built. At best of the times it only have had a fresh lick of paint or new carpet laid on top. There were two layers of carpet that had to be removed first and one could clearly see couple of layers of paint underneath. After stripping the staircase back to bare basics - the exact measurments are taken and sent to the carpentry shop to make the wooden panels for steps, spindles, balusters, hand rails, railings etc. All stair parts are made to measure by our specialist carpenters. Three weeks later the stair parts are delivered and installed within a day - yes, that's right - it only takes one day for the team of two to install new staircase (or in this case stair facelift) in place. The house owners went for the merbau hardwood finish, but other species of wood are also available.
The work itself is simple and doesn't require to knock down your old existing staircase, but simply give the existing one a facelift - that's gluing new layer of wood on top. At the end of the day here's the final result: |
